Croagh Patrick, County Mayo, Ireland (1950 A.D.): "St. Patrick's Mountain" (Croagh Patrick) is near the town of Westport. This famous 2,500-foot mountain is where St. Patrick in 441 A.D., climbed to the summit and spent forty days and nights fasting and praying for the people of Ireland. Catholic pilgrims have been climbing this holy mountain for more than 1500 years, as an act of penance and meritorious good work. The ascent to the summit is quite difficult. A lot of people don't make it to the top. We wish all of TCW's readers a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If you travel to Ireland, we highly recommend you climb "St. Patrick's Mountain" (Croagh Patrick) as a pilgrim/with devotion. Blessed be St. Patrick!

I had the great grace to climb Croagh Patrick in my mid-30's on a blustery January day. Although I fell down (hard) twice on the slippery rocks, I did make it to the top. It takes a real effort, especially as you enter the range of the summit.
