On 25 March, 1830 A.D., Pius VIII published the Brief "Litteris altero abhinc", in which he declared that marriage could be blessed by the Church only when the proper promises were made regarding the Catholic education of the children; otherwise, the parish priest should only assist passively at the ceremony.
"She (Gemma Galgani) excelled in French, arithmetic and music and in 1893
won the great Gold Prize for religious knowledge.
One of her teachers at
the school summed it up best by saying, “She was the soul of the school.”
