August 2, 2022: "Enormous Asteroid Traveling at 72,000 mph Only Just Spotted Nearing Earth" (Newsweek) - An asteroid that could measure more than 1,200 feet across—as tall as the Empire State Building—is set to fly near the Earth later this week after being discovered just a few days ago. The space rock, dubbed 2022 OE2, will make a close approach to Earth on Wednesday, figures from NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) database show. It is one of more than 29,000 near-Earth objects, or NEOs, that scientists have discovered to date—the vast majority of which are asteroids."
